WHO WE ARE & WHAT WE’RE ABOUT

OUR STORY

How We Got Here

Steve Troutman, the founder of Troutman Wealth Management, LLC, started in the financial services industry in 1999. He was fresh out of high school and had family in the business. What started as an internship morphed into a 20 year career.

It didn’t take him long to cultivate a passion for working closely with people to help them reach their financial goals. In fact, it has always been about much more than the accumulation of wealth. Money for money’s sake doesn’t excite Steve. Money as a facilitator of a life well lived… now that’s what gets him out of bed in the morning.

He’s fiercely passionate about his roles as a husband and a guide for his 3 young daughters. He spends a lot of his free time chasing wild trout in the remote forests of Pennsylvania. He’s known to backpack for miles and even climb a few mountains here and there. He’s a voracious reader. He loves mountain biking. He’s a fierce backyard sports competitor. The list goes on.

Every client doesn’t share the same hobbies and passions as Steve. He knows, well, though… money helps facilitate the pursuit of everything he loves in this world. And that’s something that all clients can relate to. They all have things they love… and he’s very honored to have a successful company that helps people experience more of them.

That’s the root of Steve’s drive as a Certified Financial Planner®. It’s the basis of what TWM represents. We keep our client roster small so that we can deliver the same sort of care and oversight that we’d give our loved ones. In fact, we think of our client roster as our extended family.

If there’s one thing that’s certain, TWM is intensely concerned about not only the financial welfare of our clients, but also the relationship money plays in the attainment of their most important life ambitions. We’re agnostic about the size of these ambitions. Big or small… if they matter to you, they matter to us.

OUR SERVICES

Offered with Competence

RETIREMENT PLANNING

Retirement is arguably one of the biggest financial decisions you will face. You work your entire life to reach a point of financial security where you think, “Can I do it?” Then the time comes and you’re full of doubt and uncertainty. It can be a very scary time.

“Will I have enough money to last me the rest of my life without having to live on tuna fish out of a can?”

We hear some version of this question more than any other.

Sure… there are a lot of factors that are unknowable. What will taxes be when you retire? How long will you live? Will you need long term care?

There’s also a lot that we do know, though. What your level of income will be in retirement. What your general living expenses are per year. How much you have saved.

We can take the known variables and build a projection that helps us plan for the “what ifs” and the unexpected.

For example, we can measure things like:

  • Are you saving enough?
  • Can you afford to take less risk in your portfolio?
  • What would it look like if you retired at 60 rather than 65?
  • How much better would it be if you worked part-time the first 5 years of retirement?
  • Can you afford a beach house?
  • How would disability look with and without long term care insurance?

Let us help you cultivate a solid game plan that allows you to focus on execution. Maybe you’re more than a decade out from retirement and simply want to know if you’re on the right track. Or maybe you’re thinking about retiring in the next year or two and want to know if you’re doing the right thing.

We can help.

You’ve worked your butt off and you deserve to feel good about your retirement.

INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT

You see the term “fiduciary” thrown around with regularity nowadays. What does it mean to be a fiduciary? Put simply… advisors are acting in a fiduciary capacity when they put their clients’ interest ahead of their own.

It’s a sad state of affairs when this has to be rigidly and legally spelled out!

Yes… we’re fiduciaries. It’s more of an organic part of our values, though. At TWM we truly frame every client conversation as if we were speaking with our mothers, fathers, siblings, or best friends.

Putting your best interest ahead of our own isn’t even something that requires consideration.  If you’re a client of TWM, you’re family.

We take a product-agnostic approach to investing. No single tool is “good” or “bad.” Just as a hammer is right for some jobs and a screwdriver for others, different investments serve different purposes. Context always matters.

We have a large toolbox to pull from and we are only compensated by you. We are not getting kickbacks or incentives for using any particular investments in our recommendations.

Common facets of our wealth management services include:

  • Consolidating your various accounts to create a streamlined, efficient investment plan.
  • Assessing whether your overall mix of assets supports your goals.
  • Analyzing the costs of your current investment strategy. Are you overpaying for the investments you have?
  • Measuring your risk tolerance and assuring your investments are aligned with your appetite for risk. Do you know what to expect in terms of the downside risk in your portfolio?

FINANCIAL PLANNING

Financial planning is at the heart of what we do as an organization. Whether we’re helping clients gear up for retirement, optimizing an investment  portfolio, or helping young parents save for college… every decision is thought of as a single piece to a bigger puzzle.

Any single decision in isolation is hard to make without the proper context. When you see the single piece in its proper place within the overall puzzle, though… everything makes a lot more sense.

The overall financial plan is the entire puzzle.

Not only does financial planning provide a platform for weighing your financial decisions. It also turns your goals into executables. As the saying goes… goals without action are merely dreams.

All of our investment clients gain access to our financial planning program. You can also engage us strictly for financial planning (without investing money with our firm).

Common uses of our financial planning include:

  • Saving for a second property.
  • Determining how much life insurance you need to protect your heirs.
  • Developing an estate plan to ensure efficient passage of assets to the next generation.
  • Calculating whether or not you’re saving enough money to retire early.
  • Deciding whether to take the lump sum or annuity option in your pension.
  • Figuring out whether you should prepay your mortgage or let it ride.

We have found that the majority of people spend more time planning what they’re going to watch next on Netflix than they do on their financial plan.

Don’t let time pass you by. Talk to us today so we can turn your dreams into legitimate goals.
